Social capital (aka relationships, aka community) is the cheat code for collaborative changemaking. In the book’s design toolkits, I made sure to include a number of tools to help you design mutually supportive strategies. Check out three of them below.
FORWARD THIS WITH THREE FAMILY MEMBERS/ FRIENDS/ COLLEAGUES.
PEER SUPPORT STRATEGY DESIGN (pp. 270 - 271)
Peers are people who either are having or have had the same or similar experiences. When peers support peers, transformational changemaking becomes possible. This PEER SUPPORT STRATEGY DESIGN tool should help you get started designing a strategy to bring peers together to support each other to create positive change.
COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE STRATEGY DESIGN (pp. 272-273)
The World Bank Group (WBG) defines communities of practice (CoPs) as “Gatherings of individuals motivated by the desire to cross organizational boundaries, to relate to one another, and to build a body of actionable knowledge through coordination and collaboration.” Communities of practice are indispensable for changemaking success. This COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE STRATEGY DESIGN tool will help you get started designing a community of practice.
MUTUAL AID STRATEGY DESIGN (pp. 274 - 275)
Mutual aid is solidarity-based support where communities unite against a common struggle. Mutual aid was indispensable for communities around the world during the Covid-19 pandemic. People shared food etc. with each other and looked after the needs of their most vulnerable neighbors. This MUTUAL AID STRATEGY DESIGN tool should help you get started creating a mutual aid strategy.
